Keith Urban has clarified the controversial remarks he recently made that seemed to encourage the illegal downloading of his music. The country star says that he was just caught up in the moment after winning favorite male artist at the People's Choice Awards last month.

"I don't even care if you download it illegally, give it to your friends, I really don't care," Urban said onstage at the event.

"What I said came out nothing like I meant," Urban recently told the Tennessean.

"I was referring to the old days when you'd buy a record, do a cassette tape and give it to your girlfriend . . . and then maybe she likes it, and becomes a fan," he added.

"I didn't mean I want people to steal music," the Australian singer clarified. "But a lot of people end up buying albums and turning their friends on to it. It came out wrong and I apologize."

"For the record, I absolutely care about my music not being taken for free," Urban said.

In other news, Urban was among the winner's at Sunday night's Grammy Awards ceremony, taking home the award for best male country vocal performance for his number one hit, "Sweet Thing."
