Toby Keith Plays Tribute To Sooner Legend
On Saturday night Toby Keith paid tribute to the late former basketball star and jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale with a half-time performance at the University of Oklahoma's home game against the University of Texas.Tisdale, who holds multiple OU points records, lost a two-year fight against cancer last May. At the game, Keith performed an original song, "Cryin' for Me (Wayman's Song)," with Tisdale's band, all of whom donned jerseys from the star's days in the NBA.
"I thought our guys played with the heart that Wayman displayed so much in not just basketball, but his life," Sooner's head coach Jeff Capel said after the game. "Any time you come across a person like that, you can't help but be changed or touched in some way. I'm just very lucky I had the privilege my first year here to get to know him and become a friend."
After twelve seasons in the NBA, Tisdale released his debut record, Power Forward, in 1995 on Motown Records. He went on to score a number one hit on Billboard's contemporary jazz chart with 2001's "Face to Face."
