Urban, McEntire And Zac Brown Help Record 'We Are The World'
Some of Country's biggest stars stayed in Los Angeles an extra day following the Grammy's to lend a hand in recording a 25th anniversary cover of the 1985 USA for Africa hit, "We Are the World."Reba McEntire, Keith Urban and the Best New Artist Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band have joined the likes of Barbra Streisand, Céline Dion, and Kanye West to help record the song, which will help raise money for the relief effort in Haiti.
Zac Brown couldn't believe the amount of star power standing under one roof at Henson Recording Studios.
"It's like standing in the classic records section at the Turtles music store looking at all the covers," Brown told the Los Angeles Times. "It's ridiculous and it's wonderful and for a good cause."
According to the Times Music Blog, the new single will premiere February 12 on NBC during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. It will then be made available for download, with all proceeds going to aid the rebuilding of Haiti.
The 1985 recording featured Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Lionel Ritchie, Bono, Diana Ross, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and Willie Nelson. The original all-star chorus raised more than $63 million to help fight poverty in Africa.
