New Johnny Cash Song, “Spotlight,” Is Released, Featuring The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach

The second new song from the forthcoming posthumous Johnny Cash album, Songwriter, has been released. The new track is called, “Spotlight,” and it features the Black KeysDan Auerbach on guitar. Cash originally wrote and recorded “Spotlight” back in 1993 during a demo session for an unreleased album at the time. Johnny’s son, John Carter Cash, took his father’s vocals and arrangements from various sessions from that era and turned them into an album of previously unreleased material. “Spotlight” is the second track shared from Songwriter, following the release of the album’s first single, “Well Alright,” back in April. “It was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to play guitar on a Johnny Cash song,” Dan Auerbach said. “Hearing his voice through the speakers in my studio sent chills down my spine. I can’t thank John Carter enough for including me.” Songwriter is due out on June 28. (Consequence of Sound)
