Scotty McCreery and his wife Gabi welcomed their son Merrick Avery McCreery on October 24, 2022. That life-changing moment inspired McCreery to capture his feelings in the track, “Love Like This,” which is featured on the former American Idol-winner’s fifth studio album, Rise & Fall. In an interview with Music Mayhem, the country star shared how his approach to songwriting changed after he became a father.

“I’ve always been an open book about my life and my family and my faith, my friends, everything. I’ve always written from the heart. It’s easier to write a song if I’ve lived it, if I know it, if I believe in it,” McCreery shared. “Fatherhood, it’s like that’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. So how could you not write songs? Just sitting there looking at him and Gabi was like, man, I’ve known love but not like this. So, I was taking pictures of the room number he was in so I could put it in the song, and all sorts of stuff.” (Country Now)
