Russell Dickerson’s recent single, “Bones,” is a tender proclamation of love that will last forever. The stirring track cracked the Top 40 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart back when it was first released in mid-July, becoming that week’s hot shot debut in the process. Dickerson came up with the tune in his Tennessee home studio during a writing session around Thanksgiving of 2023 with co-writers Parker Welling,Chase McGill, and Chris LaCorte. Dickerson’s wife Kailey loved the song so much that she spent a night driving around listening to an early mix, which is when the emerging country star knew he was on to something good.
“If she digs it,” Dickerson says, “then that’s a good sign.” While some folks at Triple Tigers initially didn’t feel the song would make a good single, Dickerson fought hard for “Bones,” and it was eventually released to country radio on July 15. “It’s a little jarring at first,” Dickerson admits. “But once you really settle into the song, that kind of fades away. I had to fight for this song to be the single, but I’m betting everything on this song.” (Billboard)
