In a new interview feature in the NME while Megan Moroney was on a U.K. tour, the country star opened up about her early music career and how Kacey Musgraves inspired her. Moroney reveals that her 2023 breakout single, “Tennessee Orange,” was recorded, mixed, and mastered in just 48 hours, with the singer even doing the single’s cover art on her phone. “It’s crazy to think about what it turned into considering how little help we had,” she recalls, with the song eventually reaching one million streams in only five days. Moroney’s sophomore album, Am I Okay?, is currently the third biggest country album from a female artist this year, behind only Beyoncé and Kacey Musgraves. “Anything with Kacey next to it freaks me out, because she’s the reason I wanted to write songs,” Moroney says, revealing her deep connection with Musgraves’ debut album, Same Trailer Different Park. “She’s such a smart writer and I fell in love with it.” (NME)
